With more than a quarter-century of artistic endeavor behind her, Susan Sales has explored and invented methods for making paint, in-and-of itself, a thing of beauty and fascination. While her colorfields were the first work to bring her serious recognition, her willingness to gamble with untried and unfamiliar materials, demonstrates a genuine drive to move beyond the comfortable. The variety of styles she has developed involve an on-going sense of adventure and experimentation. She likes to quote singer Corey Hart, describing her efforts as "always searching for the discovery that intention can't find."
"People asking, 'What do you paint?', is a most understandable query when they learn I am an artist. While my answer is usually, 'Abstracts.', my work has enough consistency in its variety to warrant division into sub-categories.; Some of these are standard art terminology and others are terms I adopted to better describe what I do."
